Bimblebox: art – science – nature at Manly Art Gallery, photo Tangible Media.
Wow! What a wonderful opening weekend we had at the Manly Art Gallery and Museum. Bimblebox: art – science – nature looks stunning installed in the gallery and is partnered with two other exhibitions:
Julia Davis: Dark Matter, a site specific installation responding to the ideas in the Bimblebox touring exhibition.
Black Harvest: Andy Devine and Peter Tilley, a collaboration of rich and complex conceptual works reflecting the industrial landscape of the Newcastle region.
A number of the Bimblebox artists attended the opening and enjoyed catching up with friends and locals. Jill Sampson, Bimblebox Art Project coordinator, officially opened the Bimblebox: art – science – nature exhibition. (audio file of Jill’s speech at the end of this article)
An amazing performance of Coalface by Alison Clouston & Boyd accompanied by an incredible group of musicians topped off the evening.
On the Sunday Beth Jackson, curator of Bimblebox: art – science – nature, led a panel discussion: At the interface of art and social action.
Thank you to Manly Art Gallery & Museum, thank you to Michael Hedger (Gallery Director), Katherine Roberts (Senior Curator) and all the staff and volunteers at the gallery for hosting Bimblebox: art – science – nature and for making us all so very welcome.

Hi David,
good to hear from you.
There are two Bimblebox exhibitions that are currently in circulation! Bimblebox: art – science – nature is an earlier Bimblebox exhibition predominently drawn from the artists who attended the first two artist camps at Bimblebox. This exhibition is currently showing at the Manly Art Gallery and is now in the final leg of its three year tour.
The exhibition/installation you have contributed to is called Bimblebox 153 Birds and will next be shown at the Gympie Regional Gallery during August. As soon as I have an electronic version of the Bimblebox 153 Birds exhibition invitation I will be emailing this to you.
Please email me if you have any further queries about this.
all the best,
Jill
