Exhibition Dates: 1 July – 4 September, 2016.
Official Opening
6 – 8pm, Friday 1 July, 2016
by Jill Sampson, Project Coordinator
Special Event: At the Interface of art and Social action
2 – 4pm, Sunday 3 July, 2016
Join a gathering of artists and arts workers involved in the project as they reflect upon their experience of making and exhibiting art with the hope of effecting social change and raising environmental awareness. Can the citizen artist really help to reinvent our world at a time of systemic change and uncertainty? Can regional galleries be a platform to catalyse communities and help us rise to the challenge of imagining and co-creating sustainable futures?
Performance by Alison Clouston & Boyd
At the exhibition opening and forum, Alison & Boyd bring their Coalface installation to life through performance and live music. In a cry of protest to Big Coal, musicians give voice to the 153 species of birds found on the Bimblebox Nature Refuge, invoking the clumsy navigation of coal-ships through the Great Barrier Reef.
