Beth Jackson, curator of Bimblebox: art – science – nature, opens the show at Dogwood Crossing gallery. Beside her is Ashleigh Campbell Cultural Development Coordinator and Superviser of Dogwood Crossing Gallery.
It was a warm Western Queensland Friday night at Miles when Bimblebox: art – science – nature, opened at Dogwood Crossing. Beth gave a very special opening speech and later took everyone on a curators tour of the exhibition. Thank you to Ashleigh, Anne, Kym and all the people at Dogwood Crossing for your support of this exhibition as well as your warm welcome to Miles.
Bimblebox: art – science – nature
until September 23, 2014
Dogwood Crossing is a beautiful gallery and one which I first visited on my way home from the first Artist Camp held at the Bimblebox Nature Refuge. It is quite special to return to the gallery two and a half years later to see displayed the artwork that came out of both the Artist Camps. It has been a tremendous journey.
Thank you to all the locals I met while in Miles and to the travellers I met on the Saturday when re-visiting the exhibition. Miles is a major hub for Coal Seam Gas extraction and this community has a lot to say about what they are experiencing. It was good to hear local stories, many of which resonate with the plight of the Bimblebox Nature Refuge.
We had a tremendous weekend in friendly and welcoming Miles. If you are in the area go and see the exhibition.

Hi there,
Not sure if the call out to artists is over?
I love to paint birds, have painted many from stradbroke and Brisbane.
I’ve also illustrated two kids books featuring spoonbills and boo book owl. Published by Working Title Press.
Recently I have opened a gallery in the heart of west end and would love to see some of your art grace these inner city walls!

Hi Sandy the call out to visual artists has indeed come to an end with all current Bimblebox Bird species allocated to artists. I will soon be putting a general call out to writers. Congratulations on the opening of Pinto Gallery. I will check it out when I am next in Brisbane. all the best, Jill
